Okay, SCA friends:

I am interested in doing this, because I can. ;) (For those not interested in clicking, there's a SCA knitting challenge, making a knitted cushion.) My question is...

How do I figure out what Period designs and style are?

I'm not asking you to hand-feed me patterns... just give me an idea on where to start... I have no clue where I'd go for pictures or descriptions of medieval knitting patterns :P

typing "medieval knitting" into google and looking at hte pictures is a start :)

This is interesting... heck I don't even knit and have a ton of GC's etc here that I was considering Ebaying off - maybe I should put my brain together with yours and make a challenge up for a prize and see what people come up with :). Could be amazing to see what spawns off it.
