This is from the comments to last night's ranty post... I felt that it needed to put out here too!
...but what many people are missing about this post is not that I'm saying, "Waaaah, this thing is hard and scary and I have a hard time doing it!" but rather, "Huh... not only is this thing hard/scary/difficult - I actually enjoy the other thing more."
The post was about how I must be weird because I like being given instructions and following them! But hey, so I'm weird - so what? That's me. Now just to find places where I can flourish. :)

on 15 Dec 2004 10:08 (UTC)It's also why I generally do well in my job as a web developer, but not so well when I try to make hobby websites. At work, I am handed a design/mock-up/partial-imlementation plus a list of functions that need to be there. I basically examine a number of patterns and combine them together, and end up with a finished product.
But when I try to design a site, my mind goes blank. I don't know how to come up with a good design from scratch. It's something that gets better with practice, certainly; but for the effort, it's so much more fulfilling to finish something that's incomplete.
