In Sept. 2003 I signed up for the (then) local gym for $30/month. I used it regularly for a while... then stopped... then used it some more... then stopped.. then moved. I'd say I haven't used the gym really for 10 months now.

Dammit, that's $300 I'll never see again.

I called this afternoon and got the membership cancelled. I had to pay a fee, of course, because I didn't move far enough away to fit their criteria for free cancellation. (Just far enough so that, without a car, it's rough to get to.)

So, $100. But there were 10 months left on the membership, so I saved $200 by spending $100 now.

Sigh.

At least that's off of my chest.

I did the same thing last year. Fact of the matter is I'm more inspired to go if I'm not OBLIGATED to go, which I was when I was paying a membership fee.

Yeah... I so wish I had a decent sized living room so that I could just do videos at home...

i joined a ymca, they have sliding scales of membership fees, and optional month to month payment plans with no obligations. that might be an option if there is one near you/you're still interested in going/etc.

Better than losing the whole thing, but that still sucks.
