*blink* Wow.

I was warned that George R.R. Martin was the type of author who wasn't afraid to axe a character if the story called for it, but... damn. I didn't expect that character to die. That was just brutal.

Of course, I get to this part - that character has died and that other character has just been saved from death - and my lunch break ends and I have to come back to the office. Gah. Want to keep reading...!!

I believe this is the incident that caused me to hurl the book across the room, much to the concern of [livejournal.com profile] galaneia...

But much as you hate spoilers, others do too -- despite lack of details, I'd still wrap this in a spoiler-marked lj-cut...

Hmm. I am more bothered by spoilers than anyone else I know, and therefore I made the post to fit my specifications of what I'd want to see if I saw it on someone else's page. Or rather, what I'd not want to see. Heh.

You know, I've read the book and I still have no idea about which char she's talking about....soooo...I think it's safe.

I dunno what book you are up to, but by book 3-1 I just about gave up on the series....the shit REALLY hits the fan then....

I finished the first book today. Couldn't put it down.

Grr, wonder if I will be able to handle 3. ;)

See, I'm one of those people whose mind evilly works with whatever partial information is provided, even (especially) when I'm trying not to. So her post would set my mind working..."hmm...no, can't be *him*, because that would be too obvious. Nor him, 'cause everyone hates him anyway. Nor him because that would be meaningless -- he's off by himself anyway. And *he*'s to obvious...leaving either this one (but he's mostly a main character) or that one (and that would be the one that dies...)

Anyway. :-P

in the 70's kung fu flick I just saw the main hero gets quartered by his brothers (and you see all the bits being dragged along by the horses.. urgh) about 10 minutes before the end.. you could hear everyone in the cinema turn to the person next to them and go 'wtf?!' all at once.

I will now practice the art of not giving anything away by not telling whether you've given anything away... :-P

hope you don't mind me posting.. stumbled across your post in a random lj wander...

imagine reading all that, and then having to wait 2yrs or so (and still waiting!) for the next book >_<

just rechecked amazon, and it's listing the due date as august 2005?! it _used_ to be august 2003, and just keeps getting pushed back >_<

Nod, I was reading Martin's website (http://www.georgerrmartin.com/) and saw that as of June 16th, he was still writing it (http://www.georgerrmartin.com/nextbook.html). Not sure how I'm going to cope when I finish the third book and there's not another to be had. ;)

I guess I confused some people, but I only just finished A Game of Thrones, I'm two books behind the rest of you still. :) Of course, this means (from reactions) that someone else is going to die at the end of the third book... someone I don't expect... Oh, this is going to be fun! ;)

(P.S. Please don't spoil me!)

The funny thing is, he had a similar apology up around Christmas, when I finished the third book. Barstard.

Hey, at least he has a planned stopping point of six books, unlike Robert Jordan. :P

This series is the absolute blackest I have ever read. I adore it. Read all now. I would rapturously describe, but spoilers.

I'm reading, I'm reading, don't worry. :)

In fact, I should log onto the library system right now to make sure I can get a copy of book 2. Thanks for reminding me.
