Also: I am quite happy about the space heater under my desk here. Yummy for cold mornings.

I have also begun to wean myself off of deoderant, on the recommendation of several hippie friends. For a week I noticed my own smelliness more than usual (the week BEFORE the hot weather, actually) but now my body is getting used to it. Hardly smelling at all. Whee!

Time to file things. Wheebop.

If you don't want to use deoderant because of chemical issues then there are other methods of not being stinky. Try fresh ginger root. Take a small bit of it, put it in cheesecloth and squeeze it. Use the juice and run it under your arms. Works pretty well unless it's blazing hot outside.

i forget where but a few years backi found soem info basically sayign that all the "don't use deodarant" stuff is merely panic, and it doesn't cause cancer, death or any other unpleasant side effects...

Well, first off, telling me while I'm already at work is a moot point, because I'm not going to be going home between now and dance.

Eh, they weren't warning me about cancer or death. Just basically that deoderant is a self-perpetuating cycle - it blocks your sweat glands and MAKES you stink. Anyway, I'm not really doing it for "health" reasons, more simply to remove something I have to pay for from my life. ;)

It's not necessarily chemical issues, but I'd be interested in the chemical process that makes ginger root work. Does it counteract the smell only, or is it a sweat-gland-interaction thing?

It just kills the smell. It's acidic so it kills the bacteria that's causing the smell. The problem is that it doesn't last for a real long time. Just a couple of hours.

Related to what he said, I think that Burt's Bees herbal deo is awesome. It doesn't have the aluminumwhateverchemical in it that is harmful, and it's the only kind for me that actually works. It's also not an anti-perspirant, so it still lets you sweat and get your toxins out.

I'm pretty sure that was only related to anti-perspirants, not deodorants in general (deodorants don't stop you sweating, they just make the sweat less stinky).

i switched to just organic deoderant, and i am a bit stinky. stinky and wet.

i think not wearing deoderant is yucky. but to each her own...

As long as you clean yourself properly on a regular basis, it is doubtful that you could really stink without some outside force (say moving heavy boxes or something similar). To my knowledge, no-one has ever complained that I am stinky...mayhap they don't want to tell me to my face...must ponder that further.

However, fifth graders don't know that cleaning bit. They don't necessarily clean themselves properly on a regular basis. And they don't know what deoderant is. I don't care which they start doing first...I just wish some of them would learn one or the other.

Eek! It's also $8 a bottle from their website (http://www.burtsbees.com), and one of the reasons I cut deoderant out was so I could save money... yes, a small bit of money, but still money!

Well, I have asked The Boy to keep me updated on honestly whether or not I smell, and he hasn't complained since the first week. So I assume I got out all my toxins and now my body is happy and non-smelly, and non-gross!

Come summer, we'll see if I go back. ;)
