Ugh. New sleep schedule time. Wake up at 5:30, shower, call boyfriend, leave for work by 7, get there by 8, take lunch from 12-1, leave at 5, get home around 6, do stuff, go to bed at 10-10:30. Seven hours of sleep is enough, right? I'll learn to think so.

This place is alright. EVERYONE there is old, and by that I mean grey-haired. At least 50. And I mean everyone. There wasn't a young face to be seen. But they're nice. The office is in the scary dead basement of the hospital, amongst piles of old beds and IV carts. Well okay, they're out in the hall and I'm in an office, but still.

I dunno. I just feel so ... claustrophobic, in a more than physical sense, in there. I don't understand how people can live spending so much of their time chained to a desk indoors. Then again, I know how hard it is to live spending so little of your life not doing so, since that's what work seems to mean these days... being behind a desk. Does everyone at 24 think, "There's no way I can do this, it's not for me?"

And why do I think that, when what I do when I come home is sit down at my computer desk?

Ponderous. And pretty depressing.

And now time for a late-night grocery run!

I think it depends on what you do at the desk.

For me (coming from a *totally* different plan than you), I would value a job, any job, for the socialization opportunites. Gray-haired people or not.

Right. For me, the job is cutting out a lot of my socialization opportunities.

And yeah, I could be doing things at the desk that made it more fun and happy... perhaps I can bring mp3s, or something. But as it is, bored and sleepy = depressed. No matter how much money I make, heh.

Yeah, if you have a job you like and it just happens to be at a desk, go you. I have a desk-job, though, and it doesn't look like I have much prospect for getting anything else. Phooey. :P

Also... you default-picked desk job. I'm sure you knew that was your only immediate option when you opted to stay in Boston instead of embarking on a flight attendant career path.

I did a dek job one day a week in Cambridge with two nice women around my age and it drove me nuts just sitting in a chair for 8 hours.. my brain switched off. I don't know how anyone does it!

I'm sort of learning to like my desk job. I have some young people around, which helps. I think with any new situation there is always a period of adjustment.

Don't you miss getting to walk around campus? I know I do. Work is so much more claustrophobic.

You could always work in a cube farm. There are always so much more fun.

The schedule

Not to get picky, but I have the same schedule and I'd suggest tightening up the morning routine. You coule sleep an extra 30-45 that way. It's amazing how much better that makes me feel. Then again, I rarely hit dreamland before midnight, so 7 hours of sleep is luxurious.

Then again, perhaps I shouldn't be giving out advice, for as Twain said, "You can't reach old age by another man's road. My habits protect my life, but they would assassinate you."

The "shower" takes forever, unless Julia's habits have changed.

20 minutes, generally. The habits have changed... but seriously, my showers weren't that long since 7th grade, when they took 45 minutes!

For [livejournal.com profile] cristovau: The reason I give so much time in the mornings is because of the phone call to [livejournal.com profile] londo... which is pretty important to me. I know I could take less time to get ready (I've done it in 30 minutes before), but I like the boyfriend-time.

Yeah, exactly. It's so dull, and my brain just deteriorates - ick!

Yeah, I imagine that having anyone else around my age would help a LOT. My last job, the part-time one, was very enjoyable because of the other temp who sat behind me and was just a couple years older than me. We talked about bellydancing and life, and I have her email now so we can keep in touch. :)

Also - sometimes I do get to walk around the Hospital, or even the Medical University campus right next door. That helps a lot. Although it makes it even worse when I have to go back underground away from the sun... :(

This place is a small cube farm. I have a desk in a cubicle, like the other 8 people around me. :P
