Oh, and I guess this should be announced somewhere too... (as if anyone could get to their friend pages to read it!)

I guess I'm a member of Gaea Spore now.

Cool:) I've only been on the net sporadically latey, but I think I've picked up enough to know that Gaea Spore is a band (?) What kind of music do they play? In what capacity are you taking part?

Yes, Gaea Spore is a local band comprised of many close friends (and a couple new members besides me who aren't friends.. yet). You can see our webpage at http://www.nhn.ou.edu/~bfurneau/gaeaspore/ (http://www.nhn.ou.edu/~bfurneau/gaeaspore/), although it hasn't been updated since new members have joined the band.

The type of music we play is... original. Today I coined the phrase "They Might Be Phish Matthews Band", so if you can think of mixing up the bands THey Might Be Giants, Phish, and the Dave Matthews Band, that might help. We've also been described as Dave Matthews Band meets the Sex Pistols. We (well, Brendan and Chris and Thom and possibly Ben now and maybe even me!) write all the songs. It's all in attempt to get away from guitar/bass/drums verse/chorus/verse/chorus/verse/bridge/verse/chorus and expand into different styles and, even better, more interesting instruments.

I bring to the band:
high skill in: piano/keyboard, horn
medium skill in: trumpet
low skill in: trombone, flute
am learning to play: accordion, anything else!

And... mezzo-soprano, baby. ;)

Understatement. I can safely say I've never heard any band like them. The one time I heard them live (Y2K Eve) was good.

Congratulations on getting on with them. Now you have a good reason to go out and practice your musical skillz.

the y2k eve show was really weird... there were a lot of non-gaea people playing, and there was a permeating mood of peculiar dimensions... weird night.

Brian heard them the year before that, the eve of the first dark party. I do believe it was just G?a Spore then.

Oh.... I guess there was some Therogy helping out... I don't really remember. I thought it was mostly GS though.

I thought it was good. I wish I had stayed for the whole thing instead of leaving when I did. But such is the risks of having a whiny (ex-)girlfriend. I will say I've been trying to find recordings of saw playing ever since that show and can't.
