i read that community sometimes. sometimes it irritates me, but then that's what i get. ;)

Yeah, I had to think for a while before joining it, because it seems to have the requisite number of idiots who attack anyone who thinks other than they do. But there are also some intelligent people on there, and it seems to be a good place to learn about birth control stuff. And sometimes I -do- need to vent about bad parents and bratty kids (especially kids who don't tip! ;)

And maybe, just maybe, I'll solidify my views more than "I don't want kids right now, but maybe I will want them later, but maybe I will just adopt then, etcetc". I'm sure I could find some interesting census information on that community that would strike home with my whole overpopulation sensitivity (and kids-up-for-adoption sensitivity).

what's your sensitivity with kids up for adoption?

I just think there are a lot of kids who need smart, loving parents to take care of them, and I could be one of those. That's all.

A lot of my friends (mostly Expatriated Zulus, but that's another story) are members and enjoy being able to vent there.

I'd be childfree myself, but the condom broke and I thought my doctor was right (I have since learned better). In 15 years and 10 days, I'll finally get back to wishing I could be childfree without having one in the house to remind me I should have gotten my tubes tied instead of dating.

Yeah, I've started to get really edgy about just using condoms, and am going to head to Planned Parenthood soon. I was on Depo for 2.5 years, but monetary reasons took me off of it. I just found out how much cheaper the pill is (at least around here) and am going to look into going on it. And maybe someday when I have medical insurance, I'll get a tubal or essure...

I didn't know you read my journal. :) Did you start recently, after I started reading yours?

ooh, i just found out about essure from reading childfree. it seemed like a viable option. i'm scared of the major surgery involved in a tubal ligation, but essure doesn't seem like a big deal.

Yeah, it sounds pretty interesting. I want to learn more.

if you go to the cleveland county health department they´ll give you an exam, test for stds, and give you a year´s worth of the pill, for free.

(i´d look it up, but paying by the minute and all...)

it's some kind of insert they put in your fallopian tubes, and it scars over, giving you pretty much the same effect as a tubal ligation, only with fewer side effects, and it's not as invasive. i think.

Re:

Yup. It's a screw-shaped insert, I think. And indeed non-invasive, which is happy for a lot of people.

There's a detailed post about it here (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=childfree&itemid=1196455), so that you don't have to waste your time/money searching for it. :)

Good luck on the contrception front. I'm currently covered by Tricare (military healthcare) and they refuse to authorize a tubal, let alone an essure, until I've either had three kids or have a medical condition that could be alleviated by having it. You can guess which angle I've been working on...

I've read you on and off but never commented, then I noticed you friended me so I added you back and started reading posts I'd missed between my occasional forays to your journal.

I think they'll authorize a vasectomy after 2 kids or age 25. I heard that secondhand, though.

Gah, I was stupid and lost what I had written here. It was mostly sympathy for Tricare's rules... I wonder if they have ever calculated out the cost of a woman's lifetime of pills vs. a tubal/essure?

I've read your comments to Rachel and Nick mostly, and tried to figure out if I ever heard your name back in high school (when I dated Nick). Not that I'd remember, really, I have a horrible memory. And sometimes I'd read Rachel's friends page and read your posts there. I added you as an attempt to get as many people as I could onto my compatibility test, and just kept you after that. :)

Hmmmph. Well I suppose 'tolerence' is the operative word here. Or 'venting'.

I guess there may be a 'Homofree' club, too. For, you know, 'venting'.

Watch what you assume - I make no judgements on other people's decisions (in fact, I LIKE a lot of other people's children), but I don't want to have children myself.

It's absolutely NOT like having a "homofree" community. Unless there were a community just called "heterosexuals", for people who were so, no matter what they thought about G/L/B/T people.

In short: I'm non, not anti.

totally off topic, i'm waiting for the next letter to get added to the end of that progression. maybe we should just add an O for other and be done with it.

I'm sorry that you feel I'm making assumptions, but after visiting the link you posted I was barraged with posts making fun of 'breeders' and discussing how horrible children are.

If you are not one of these people, well, I think that's great. And hey, your choice not to have children is all you, man.

However, you posted a link, saying you'd joined a certain group, and when I went to that area of LJ out of curiousity, all I see are things which equivilate to, "God, I'm SO glad I'm not a fag because they're all so damned stupid." I saw very little to imply that there was any other purpose for posting there.

Hmm.

Right now, there is one post visible to me on the front page that is flat-out insulting and disparaging to parents and children.

There are several other posts about parents who abuse their children, parents who do not discipline their children, or out of control children... this seems to be the largest reason to post here, to vent about parents and children who are particularly rotten. By virtue of their actions, not of the fact that they are parents or children. The same kind of thing has been on your journal lately.

There's also a post about a scary wedding gown cut to show off a pregnant woman's stomach, someone's personal post about a group meeting, a couple posts about other people's reactions to childfree women, a couple silly poems, links to articles...

I consider it very difficult to look at this community's description and read through multiple posts and still come away with a feeling that it is overwhelmingly about condemning the lifestyle choice of others.

I apologize if this all reads awkwardly, I am heading for bed after a very long night and am not paying extreme attention to my grammar. Let me know if I need to rephrase something.

Well perhaps I visited the thread at a particullarly troll filled moment. Who can say?

I also am rather incoherant. My flu is doing fun things to my brain.

Hey. I really like your site. I've been dying to get a Live Journal for quite awhile now but I can't seem to find a code. If you have one, can you please give it to me? I would really appreciate it. If anything, email me at: darktendency33@aol.com

Take care.

If you pay five bucks you can get one and have a paid account (and all the stuff that goes with it) for two months. Then after that it just goes to a free account. Try that.
