Whoever's luck I've borrowed for the day, you can have it back.

A little after 5pm today, westbound on highway 9 just west of Chautauqua (within pointing distance of my apartment), in the stop-and-go bumper-to-bumper traffic after an OU basketball game, I rear-ended a Ford F-250.

The truck got only superficial damage, but Bonnie (that's my car) needs a pretty hefty nose job now. The radiator's all smushed, but the engine itself looks fine. She was able to drive across two lanes of traffic to park on the shoulder. Just to be safe I had her towed, though.

*sigh*

At least I'll get a new windshield out of it.

Time to call the insurance company. (Sign of LJ addiction: you post about it before calling the insurance.)

*comfort* Car accidents suck. I'm gathering you're not hurt though?

My back has started aching, but I'm assuming it's not serious. I wish I had someone around to hit up for a backrub, though.

But no, I'm not hurt at all. It wasn't even a strong enough collision for the airbags in either car to go off. It was at a fairly slow speed, which is why it's so annoying that my car was smashed up so badly.

Keep in mind that if the damage is less than your deductible, you really don't want to report it to your insurance company. Just reporting the accident will likely raise your premium. Making a claim is much worse.

Yeah, I know. My mom told me that, too. But I'm taking my chances, because I think the damage will be more expensive than $1000. I know my premium will go up, and that's just gotta be that.

Sadly, it won't. Otherwise I'd be fine, I've got enough people far away that would give me a backrub if they could!

If your front end and radiator is messed up it should be >1k, It was 1k for me just to fix the driver side front panel, realign a headlight and replace the driver side mirror when some jagoff took a corner WAY too fucking tight and slid along the side of my car. Fucking cop said it was probably my fault too even though you could see I was more or less up against the curb avoiding this guy. Rat bastard.

Yeah, both headlights have left this realm of existance, the hood is folded up into an upside-down V, and the radiator is crunched. There's probably more than that, too, but those were the things I definitely noticed.

i had the same wreck last july - i rear-ended a parked suburban when i was going about 30 mph. it destroyed the entire front end of my car and the hood and the radiator. it cost about $5500 to fix, but I only had to pay the $250 deductible, and then it took a year for my insurance premium to go up (they have to wait until the next cycle), and the difference was hardly anything. i would claim it on insurance, it will be way more then $1000 if it is anything like my accident. I'm sorry that happened jules. if you need a ride at all while it is being repaired, or cappucino, just give me a call.

Sounds a lot like the same accident, moved from a parking lot to H9. Man, $5500 is half the cost of my car when I got it, possibly the cost of the car now! Sheesh. I hope the insurance premium doesn't go up too much.

I appreciate your offer and will take you up on it if I need anything. Thanks :)
