If you have seen Donnie Darko and are looking for confirmation/rejection of your speculations, the movie is explained in the pages of Roberta Sparrow's Philosophy of Time Travel. Either have fun traversing the really annoying official site, or ask me for the text, or if you don't think you want it, well, okay.

I'm not including it here because I do not think it's a good idea for people who haven't seen the movie to read it. It's much better when you can spend a few days working it out yourself. :D

Welcome back - you've been missed. I was almost going to email you today as well to find out how you were.

I haven't even heard of the movie (but then, that's not surprising, this being Australia and all).

Well, it came out in 2001 as an independent film - didn't even show in many theaters. It's become a cult classic now - I only heard about it by word of mouth, and luckily found one copy at the video store. Look for it, it might be around, even in Oz!

Stay away! The supplementary Philosophy of Time Travel, at least as presented on the DVD, is not nearly as cool as the film itself.

Have made a note of it. Maybe one of the smaller video stores may have it. Year will help - thanks!!

Well, of course it's not. It's not -the movie-, it's a bit of supplimental material they wrote for the DVD/website. I think it's cool since I found it -after- I had formulated my own theory on the movie. It was neat to see what was meant, instead, and how that differs from what I (and many others) got from it. And for those who don't want to figure it out, it provides them some explanation so they don't go away from the movie thinking it was dumb (Roger Ebert only gave it 2.5 stars because he didn't think the ending was good... and I know Jason will be inclined to think the same).
