For those of you who don't know, I'm a big geeky fan of the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (which is no longer being filmed, and might be soon dropped from Sci-Fi as well). I've recently created an Excel file of a complete episode list and have begun a tally of each of the episodes I have on tape and what status they're in. I've only watched two since starting this, but I thought I'd be impressive to note:
200 episodes were filmed in total.
196 are known to have existing 'fan copies' : the original pilot and the first 3 episodes on the Minnesota public TV station KTMA do not exist except at Best Brains Studios.
I have 70 episodes on tape, in various qualities from fuzzy to clear.
That's 35%. I'm impressed with myself. However, I'm hoping that by keeping a record of what I have and what quality it's in, I can join the Trading Depot at the official website and eventually get ALL THE EPISODES. And then I will truly be a queen among geeks.
If you're interested in being a part of the reviewing process (and then I can have an external opinion as to the quality of an episode), let me know and I'll call you up when I decide to watch them. :) I've got 68 episodes to go through, so there's time enough...

on 18 Nov 2002 10:21 (UTC)I have Laserblast as well, but nothing that comes after it (no Sci-Fi Channel episodes). I also have Mitchell and The Brain that Wouldn't Die, Joel's last and Mike's first respectively. And of course, 67 others :)
Well I was intending that people should come over and watch them WITH me, and I doubt that'll be possible very often ;) But our two households can definitely start a sharing process with the episodes we do have!
Re: Woo!
on 18 Nov 2002 13:55 (UTC)I do have episodes after Laserblast, a whole 11 even. All from season 8. Nothing seasons 9 or 10, though.
And I just watched my copy of Laserblast, and boy is it bad. The copy, I mean. I gave it a C. :( The sound is very fuzzy, and if you turn it up enough to hear the dialogue you're overwhelmed by static. If yours is in better condition, that will be one I'll need to get a new copy of :)
I also seem to be missing a few important episodes. I'll have to check my brothers' house ;)
