surreal day
20 October 2008 17:52Odd day. I overslept Harvard-work completely and spent the next several hours in a haze of odd dreaming and resetting the alarm until I noticed it was only a few minutes until I had to wake up for TTC-work and finally fully awoke.
(In my dream I had been taking a bus to the airport to go on a vacation, but ended up falling asleep on the bus and not getting off at the airport but rather staying on it as it traveled a different route to a military-industrial complex in the suburbs. There I wandered around with a high school field trip group until I took a wrong turn and ended up in the apartment of the owner/CEO/HMFIC of the complex, which was built right into some machinery. He met me there - a conglomeration of Bill Gates and Mr Mathis - and attempted to seduce me despite his marraige. I was flattered but resisted, and at some point realized that I had probably by that time missed the flight I had originally gone to the airport for, and tried to figure out how to get back to the airport or to get a flight closer to where I was. At some point the whole high-school group came back, and the chaperone said, "Isn't this a bit much for a 17-year-old to figure out on her own?" and I glared at her and announced haughtily, "I'm 28!" Then they all took up a collection to help me pay for my new flight out. Dream interrupted by final alarm that woke me up.)
Got to work, and have just been spending the day in a haze. I'm not necessarily tired, I'm just not all here. I forgot to eat the breakfast I had packed, forgot to email my Harvard-work boss to tell her I hadn't shown (I work in an off-site lab on campus), spent the entire day without chatting on the internets, and generally have been detached. I wonder how tonight will go.
