Yay Massachusetts. :)

I left work today, grabbed some food, and walked over to the State House. Outside was packed with supporters of both sides lining the street. I wandered around a bit, looking for people I knew (like [livejournal.com profile] laura47), not finding anyone. I stood and ate my chinese food in the crowd, just listening and smiling. I was teased by one guy for having delicious smelling food. Not ten minutes after I got there, a woman behind me on the phone found out that we won. She didn't shout it out, but I guess others did, because within 30 seconds the place was turned into a cheering, crying, smiling mob. Hooray! I ended up finding laura47 around then, and we chatted a bit. We were interrupted as the crowd began singing The Star-Spangled Banner, which we joined loudly. We were both amused by the no buttsex signs across the street. (Two red rectangular signs featuring stick figures of the universal-male/female-bathroom-signs variety, one bent over, the other behind, and a diagonal "no" slash through the whole thing.) There was a group of old ladies behind us, the Raging Grannies, singing "Chapel of Love" with newly-written verses about the topic. That was the first moment where I teared up. laura had to leave and go back to work. I spent a little while searching for whomever was giving away MassEquality stickers, but failed to find them. Eventually I left, and as I walked to Park Street Station through Boston Common I heard the crowd start up another go at The Star-Spangled Banner. Queue wet eyes #2. The day didn't seem as miserable and cold anymore. I also started getting teary because I was so happy and wanted to remember those moments for the rest of my life, but know that it's likely not going to happen because I have a broken memory. My consolation was that I could come home and make this post, and maybe it'll help me hold on to that smile for longer.

To all my friends, wherever on the Kinsey scale you fall, I wish you love and life. Treasure it well.
