juldea: (brights)
I woke up this morning, bright and early, and went to work, because on Tuesdays I work a 9-5 schedule instead of the regular 11-8. I braved the rush hour T traffic home afterwards and sat down for a while until [livejournal.com profile] londo got home from being out with friends, greeting him with, "Let's go vote!" except he had earlier in the day. So I got all kitted up for the cold again and crutched my way over four blocks to my voting station.

And found out I couldn't vote. Last year this happened because I was unfamiliar with the whackassed ways that Massachusetts registers voters. (In Oklahoma, once you register you're registered, and they will track your address changes through the DMV for you. In Massachusetts, the voter polls are blissfully separated from any other type of tracking, I guess, so if you don't tell them you've moved, they'll never figure it out on their own. I have no issue with this except that I had no way of knowing it originally.) That's why this year I made sure to fill out my voter registration form for my current address and get it all stamped and in the outgoing mail several days before the deadline.

Only the outgoing mail wasn't actually controlled by me, and according to the folks on whatever phone line the poll volunteers called for me, it got postmarked the day after the deadline. So no voting for me, unless I wanted to go to my old (two years past) polling location in Somerville. At this point, it's already a quarter until eight, I'm on crutches and don't have a car, and they are stupid for suggesting to me that I can somehow get to Somerville before polls close. So I failed at voting.

However, people on the internets reminded me that today was <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancake_Day#Pancake_Day>Pancake Day</a>, so I made myself some chocolate chip pancakes for dinner. They were very tasty and put me in a better mood. Hooray for comfort food!
