awesome thai meal

So, many of you are familiar with my thai food obsession. For those of you who aren't... During the summer and fall of 2001 I think it was, I ate lunch at Pad Thai 5 days a week for somewhere between 5-7 months. I would go in on Mondays and write a check for 4 days' worth of lunch specials - I got 1 day free because the staff all knew me. I eventually had to stop eating there daily because they began giving me SUCH LARGE PORTIONS that I was gaining excessive weight. It was crazy. But I never once got tired of the food.

That being said, I had an awesome thai meal this weekend at drdt's house. We, a 8-person gaming group, ordered from Thai Cha-Da. Actually, I ordered - they gave me the menu and told me to go crazy. We had:

Vegetarian Spring Rolls

Chicken Satay

Pad Thai

Duck Massaman Curry

Beef with Snow Peas

Ginger Chicken

Spicy Basil Fried Rice (w/ chicken)

White rice and extra peanut sauce

And every single bit of it was amazingly tasty. I had some of every dish, and most of the fried rice. I ate until the Destroyer was sated. (This means something to many of you.) I got to take home leftovers of the fried rice and ginger chicken.

And, it cost right around $10/person, thanks to the 10% off coupon printable from the website.

I was such a happy girl. (Did I mention there was also a londo to kiss next to me?)

Free checks!

I'm so silly. I can't believe I've never taken advantage of this:

My bank (USAA) offers free checks for the life of my account. Yes they're a simple design, but I can still get a little picture of a music clef in the top corner! And yes they aren't duplicate checks (with a carbon copy) but that's what check registers are for... Because, yay, free!

Which means that I don't need to worry about using up the boxes of checks I still have with my old address on them. It doesn't cost me money to toss 'em and order new ones! (Yes, it cost me money to get them originally. That's my stupidity fee for not finding out about this before, when it was right there on the bank's webpage.)

Driver's license fees

I currently use my Oklahoma driver's license whenever I do a spot of driving - even though I've lived here for over a year now, I rarely drive, so I'm not too afraid of the penalties for not changing my license. However, my license will expire in about half a year, and it occurs to me that I should check out the fees for getting a new Massachusetts license vs. simply converting this one.

According to the Mass RMV fee schedule, the fee for a class D conversion is... $90?!?! Hot damn. That's exorbitant. Well, let's find out how much it costs to get a license from scratch after letting this one expire... $30 permit application fee, written test, $20 license application fee, driving test that requires the use of a car and a sponsor (person over 21 with a valid license and 1 year of driving experience), $40 license fee = $90. Same price, and a lot more work.
