juldea: (by mercy)
A few hours ago, my father called me to say that they have begun turning on the morphine to my grandmother and turning off the machines. She probably will die before the day is through.

EDIT at 4pm: Just got phone call from Dad. She died about half an hour ago, 2:30ish central time.

I'll be leaving for Oklahoma tomorrow or Saturday and returning sometime mid-next-week.

It suddenly struck me when talking to [livejournal.com profile] learnedax this afternoon that she is the last of my biological grandparents, and therefore soon they will all be dead. My maternal grandparents both died in the last 10 years, and my paternal grandfather died when my father was very young. My grandmother remarried and he's still alive, and is definitely my grandfather in all ways but in blood... but the bloodlines are all dead, now. Or at least soon.

It occurs to me that I could convince a parent to pay for car insurance for me, and drive the Sunfire back to Boston. Must research.

By the way: It's been expected for a while. [livejournal.com profile] learnedax really wanted me to grieve earlier while he was there, but I'm just not grieving. This will probably change once I'm in Oklahoma, but for now I'm fine, really.

Perhaps it's my recent first reading of Slaughterhouse Five. So it goes, and all.
