I am thoroughly engaged by this page on Common Errors in English. Especially the "non-errors" at the bottom of the page. I just wish that more people who need to read this page would read it. Heh.

For my own reference:

Since I have 13 user pics and I'm lazy, I'm not going to do [livejournal.com profile] baronbrian's entire user pics meme, but I will give you some stats.

6 of my pics are actual photos of my face.
2 are artistic renderings of my face.
3 feature my boobs (because I'm showing off t-shirts... really!)
1 is my cat Matrix.
1 is a picture of one of Jack the Ripper's supposed, but probably not, victims.

And because I'm clever, I don't have a default picture, so you have to jump through hoops to see the list of all the pics. For that reason, I'm not assigning a picture to this post. ;)

Okay. Dr. Goble has found the paper topics for the two papers I could write, and has given me an offer for a third. This will give the some of you who want to help a bit of insight on what he (Dr. Goble) is like and what he looks for.

Paper on Caro's The Path to Power )

Paper on Wit )

New paper idea on reviewing the degree )

I didn't do the first one because I didn't have/make the time to read the chapter. I didn't do the second one because of massive writer's block; we had discussed the movie in class and many neat topics were brought up, therefore I couldn't use them and had to think up something of my own to use in order to be intelligent and innovative. And I couldn't. The third one bothers me because my first instinct is to write, "That five years was a waste of my life." And then of course there's a block on coming up with my own idea.

Sigh. I'm so close, and yet so far.

The cosmic scales refuse to tip in my favor.

I made a friend at the gym tonight! A red-headed girl was asking the instructor some questions after Pilates and then we ended up next to each other at the mirror in the locker room, so I asked her if she was new and we began talking and ended up working out together. Our workouts were really scarily similar, but perhaps that's because we both have Jessica as a personal trainer. Her name is Rachel and she lives in Malden, not far from the subway station. She's a little younger than me (I assume, she's in her second year of college at least) and studying Clinical Social Work... Which could go either way in the end, I suppose, as far as her major reflecting some part of her personality goes. She might've been shocked when I said 'badass' but it might've just been that I was talking about riding my bike last weekend. ;)

Anyway, so that was good. I know I'll at least see her again next Tuesday, except oops - I'll be interviewing then. I should've remembered. Hopefully I'll see her before then and can mention that I'll be gone.

So right. I then finish up my workout and go outside to ride my bike home. My bike lock is a key lock and the keyhole has a little sliding 'door' over it to keep the weather out - except it didn't work. I had to fiddle with the door because it was frozen shut, then I had to force the key into the lock because there was ice inside, and then it turns out the gears in the key were frozen up too and wouldn't move. I wiggled and pushed and eventually ... the key broke. Broke off into the lock, with a little bit sticking out. Perhaps when the lock thaws out there will be enough sticking out to turn and undo the lock, but for now I had to walk home and I'm bikeless until further notice. Argh! Plus, if it's not enough to turn, I have to find some cable cutters or something in order to get my bike free.

Did I mention I almost killed myself on the way to the gym because I didn't unfreeze the hand brakes before I started riding down the street? If not for a quick U-turn maneuver I would've plowed right into a busy intersection. Bah.

But... I made a friend!

The Security Edition of the Bill of Rights: "The First Ten Amendments to the constitution of the United States printed on sturdy, pocket-sized, pieces of metal.

The next time you travel by air, take the Security Edition of the Bill of Rights along with you. When asked to empty your pockets, proudly toss the Bill of Rights in the plastic bin. You need to get used to offering up the bill of rights for inspection, and government workers need to get used to deciding if you'll be allowed to keep the Bill of Rights with you when you travel."

Hell yes.
