I'd better jot this down, since I said I would.
So Wally Amos of Famous Amos cookies talked to us at the Saxon meeting yesterday. During his speech, he read some children's books to us to illustrate different points. One of the stories was about a talking box of crayons that didn't like each other. You know, Red says, "I don't like Orange!" and Blue says, "Neither do I! And no one likes Green!" etc. So this little boy takes out all the crayons and lays them out to see what he does, and he uses all of them one at a time to draw a beautiful picture. Then he puts the crayons back in the box. As he walks away, he hears Blue say, "I... I like Green! It makes beautiful grass!" and Orange says, "I love what you did with the sky, Blue!" etc. etc.
The point being that we are all different colors in a big box of crayons, and that we have to use our different colors together to make a pretty picture. Standard teamwork stuff.
But this made me think, what color would I be? What color would other people be? How about everyone in Saxon? etc etc...
So I ended up with this idea:
I have a box of 112 crayons here at home. I will go through them and separate them by general color - blues, reds, etc. Then I will take them to Saxon, and I will list all the colors in an email to the company and tell people to tell me what color they are (and they can come look through the crayons in my office if they like). I hope to be able to make a list of that to do some geeky data analysis on it, but even if that doesn't happen...
I want to make a huge thank-you card to Wally Amos signed by everyone from Saxon in their color of choice. He really was one of the best speakers I've ever heard. And I think that would be a really cool fun creative project.
So, that's my idea. :)
Last night I got out all of the purples and Rachel and I tried to figure out which one I was. I drew a little bit with each one, took a picture of it, and sent it to Rachel (technology rules). I'm down to a struggle between two remaining, and as soon as I figure it out I will tell ;) Then Rachel and I did the same with the greens, for her, and I think we decided tentatively that she was jungle green, but she wanted to get out her box and inspect that color first.
So, does anyone else want to know what color they are? I think I might just draw little squares of each color and photograph them and put them online so that everyone can see and pick. :)
