I blame Tiffany.
7 January 2002 23:19This post was going to be very emotional about 4 hours ago when I first got home, but LJ was being a total bitch so it waits until now, when I'm a little more calmed down.
I blame Tiffany. ;)
See, before Tiffany's post, I thought Wall's was a Dollar-General-Big-Lots type store. Like, not something I would shop in. But she mentioned something about clothes.
So today I'm at Goodwill on Lindsey Street, getting an application because they're hiring and Walmart hasn't called me yet (turns out they were out of applications until Wednesday, but whatever. I still found 2 wonderful pairs of pants for $7 total). I go out to my car, and notice that there's a Wall's right nearby, like 3 stores down - and it looks to have "we're hiring" signs in the windows. So I go in, curiosity piqued. I don't look at the stuff at first, basically just enough to see that it's a pretty alright place, and fill out a "recruitment card" - they're not actually hiring right now, but they take these cards with your name and phone number and such, and when they are hiring they call you up and then you actually apply.
So, done with that, I decide to see what the store is all about.
See, the store shouldn't be called Wall's. It should be call Julia's.
They had bins - huge 6'x20' wooden divided tables - of Victoria's Secret bras and underwear on sale for 60% off retail. Also racks and racks of VS lingerie. And racks and racks of expensive-but-marked-down clothing. A whole rack of Kikgirl pants!!!
I... well, I called goldbug, which would turn out to later be for my benefit. I told her about the great riches of Victoria's Secrets to be found (goldbug has recently discovered the actual greatness of a good-fitting expensive bra. now we just try to find them for not expensive, grin.) I hunted through the sections, finding about 7 bras for her to try on before she showed up, and 5 for me. We tried them on. And shopped. And shopped. I only took one bra from the original batch, as it was the only one which had 2 pairs of matching underwear (1 thong and 1 bikini. However, I later went back in with 4 more bras to try on, and came out with 2 of those, which each had the requise number of matching underwear (actually one of them was purple satiny, which I have a lot of underwear like at home, so I didn't need to get anything to match it).
They had sparkly tights, and black fishnets, and purple fishnets.
The Kikgirl pants were awesome, and only $20. It became obvious why they were marked down. I tried on a size 9, and it was baggy. I tried on a size 7, and it fit perfectly. I tried on a size 5, fit comfortably but tight - room to shrink into, basically. Seeing as in other pants if I attempt to put on a 7 I usually can't button the top without sucking things in, I think it's safe to say these pants ran a bit large. So I got the 5.
There was a pair of silver dress shoes that tempted me, but they were just a bit too tight in the toes to do their dirty work. They were only $6, but I don't need dress shoes at the moment.
So anyway. It's 7, the store is closing, and I'm holding on to 1 pair of pants, 3 bras, 5 pairs of underwear, and 3 pairs of tights. I think this would've amounted to about $80-100. This is where it became a good thing that goldbug was there. She talked me (or helped me talk myself) out of 2 of the bras (but dear god do I want to go back and get them!), 3 pairs of underwear, and all the tights. I came out with 1 bra, 2 pairs of underwear, and the pants. For $50.
Maybe it's a grave mental disease. Maybe I'm becoming my mom. I just can't explain why I love shopping and love new clothes. I especially can't explain why I love lingerie. I mean, vanity, yeah. I look in the mirror wearing sexy things and I like what I see. And I don't care if you see it or not - I know what it looks like myself. I mean, there are some people I would like to be like, "hey check out this awesome new thing I bought," but it's not like I want to say, "Hey check out my tits."
But... Oh hell, I don't know. But I live with it. I don't think I can stop it, and it's not really bad for me.
Shiny new things, yum.
So back to goodwill... I mentioned I got 2 pairs of pants. Only one I tried on before leaving the store. I browsed through the women's pants and tried some on and ended up deciding on this one neat pair of nylon pants with pockets on the knees and bungee cords on the ankles... yeah... then on my way out I drifted past the men's jeans and saw a pair of JNCOs, 31x32. I grabbed them on impulse. Tried them on when I got home and unpacked, and have been wearing them since - they were exactly what I was looking for. Legs are 32 inches. Rachel, they look exactly like the JNCOs I inherited from you that have since been passed on to Karen (I think). They fit wonderfully and are amazingly just the right length. In men's jeans... imagine it...
So yeah. Shopping. I'm such a girl. I wore earrings today, too.
