The internet has furnished a review of one of my favorite (and the least-known of my favorite) movies!

http://www.strangehorizons.com/reviews/2010/01/cast_a_deadly_s.shtml

I call the review spoiler-free except in a couple of quotes which I think are more impressive in the movie if you don't know they're coming. Otherwise, great review.

I had that on VHS. Did you ever see the sequel, "Witchhunt"?

Yeah, I've got two VHS copies. Never saw "Witchhunt"; I heard (even before this review, which confirms) that it wasn't too good.

I liked it a lot. It wasn't on par with "Cast a Deadly Spell" - takes place almost ten years later and a different actor playing Lovecraft, but it was fun. I'd have preferred a more direct sequel, or even an HBO series.

Huh. You're the first positive review I've heard. If it ever fell into my hands I'd probably give it some time.

It should've been a series, though, yeah. But that's why we eventually got The Dresden Files, I think!

so we should watch it! maybe at my place because my living room is maybe 10x bigger? what are you doing, um, sunday late afternoon?

I admit, I have a spot for "Witchhunt" because I used to be very into reading about the Red Scare and McCarthyism - and that's what it's based off of. Go into it expecting something lighter and a little silly at times, and I think you'll enjoy it.

Haven't seen "Dresden Files."

Hrm. Sunday 2pm I'm seeing "In the Heights," and I don't know how long that'll last, and I have radio at 7pm. So that might be rough. Saturday is right out, for me. Friday night?

Seeing "Dresden Files" is inferior to reading it, as is so often the case. They're a good series, worth a read if you're looking.

I'll bring it up with him. Not sure if he's seen it yet.

Obviously we need to hang out in front of you more, to readjust your thinking. He's totally my boy. :)

I've got two VHS copies plus an .avi, and believe more people should see this movie but lack appropriate space to host a viewing party. Should you care to fix that latter problem, let me know.

Dresden Files is a great series of books. I saw the tv show first, then checked out the books, and was glad I did. So, I got to experience it the good way, with increasing enjoyment.

Cast a Deadly Spell is a great movie. I haven't seen it in ages. I think I still have it on a vhs tape somewhere.
