The pressure of his multi-memories exploded the time-frozen englobement which he had tried to resist. He felt twining bodies, the sounds of sex, rhythms laced in every sensory impression: lips, breathing, moist breaths, tongues. Somewhere in his vision there were helix shapes, coal-colored, and he felt the beat of those shapes as they turned within him. A voice pleaded in his skull: "Please, please, please, please..." There was an adult beefswelling in his loins and he felt his mouth open, holding, clinging to the girdershape of ecstasy. Then a sign, a lingering groundswelling sweetness, a collapse.

beefswelling???

this from Children of Dune, Frank Herbert

that's so brendan's mom. I imagine she has a lot of trashy sci-fi romance.

I wonder if she'd let me borrow some. I wonder how I'd phrase that. Asking for "trashy sci-fi romance" doesn't sound like it would get me a right kind of response. ;)

Sci-Fi Romance

Generally, it's been my experience that Sci-Fi Romance is an oxymoron. More to the topic, however, I didn't recall Dune attempting to be romantic. I thought Dune was supposed to be all about a power struggle and holding an empire by the throat. Hmm...guess I'll be re-reading the Dune saga as well. Why Sci-Fi has to have all that trashy icky 'romance' stuff in it anyway is beyond me. Maybe they're pitching to the uncouth sexually over-stimulated teenage male psyche? But, generally you would be extremely hard-pressed to find an uncouth sexually over-stimulated teenage male reading any book. Thoughts?

"beefswelling" makes me really not want to eat any more of the summer sausage in my fridge.

Dune isn't a romance, but it does have that one paragraph in it. And romance is never directed towards uncouth sexually over-stimulated teenage males, it's directed towards sexually anything-stimulated any-aged females. ;)

Children of Dune, eh? I remember the books something like this:
Dune - great book, classic story, a bit slow at points
Dune Messiah - decent book, really freaking slow at points
Children of Dune - unbelievable how slow it was, took a month to read the whole thing (after trying twice over two years)
God Emperor of Dune - never bothered

Heh, that's nothing. Wait 'til you get to 'Heretics of Dune'......

She tried to push away from him as he increased the pace of her responses. 'How did he know to touch me there at that instant? And there! And There! Oh, Holy Rock of Dur, how does he know this?'
Duncan marked the swelling of her breasts and saw the congestion in her nose. He saw the way her nipples stood out stiffly, the areolae darkening around them. She moaned and spread her legs wide.

Now that's prose worthy of a Harlequin Romance Novel!

Children of Dune took me a while to get into, but once I was about a third of the way in, the rest went very quickly. *shrug* Going to try God Emperor now...

*ponder* I'm not sure who you are, Jargo, therefore I'm not sure whether to believe that really exists in the book or not. I guess I'll find out...

I'm not really surprised...

"He gazed at her large naked breasts as she stood in the doorway without a glimpse of shame in her face..." - from Prelude to Foundation by Issac Asimov

"...as she took hold of his blood-gorged pole of muscle..."
- from The Godfather by Mario Puzo...and my personal favorite :)

romance, maybe, but sex scenes? it totally depends on the person and the kind of sex scene. my (male) roommate reads romance novels that are obviously geared toward women...

I completely forgot to say this last night when we were talking about this, but look at the publisher in God Emperor of Dune, if I didn't tell you to already. You will be surprised.
