juldea: (hold me!)

Tonight I decided to go walk the Cambridgeside Galleria and maybe get some Christmas shopping done. As I walked around a corner of the second floor, I pretty much walked into a display for one of the jewelry stores that was having a going-out-of-business sale, selling everything for 70-80% off. I oohed and aahed over many things, and kept an eye out for gifts, but what I noticed most were strands of pearls. I had been outright telling londo that I wanted pearl jewelry as a gift for at least three years.

So I bought myself my long-desired pearls, originally $150 for $40. Aren't I so goddamned empowered. Then I walked out of the store, sat on a bench in the mall, and cried until I began having trouble finding dry spots on my handkerchief.

So if you're thinking of jewelry for someone this Christmas, go check out that sale. They still have a pretty hefty amount of stock, all kinds of stuff, lots of other things I wanted to buy for myself but didn't have the same justification for.

I'm gonna go listen to the B.C. Clark jingle and clean the living room before Repo! tonight. Is it too out of place to wear pearls to a campy horror musical?

*hugs* Wear the pearls. They came at the right time, even if in the wrong way.

Absolutely not. I interpret "Camp" as anything goes, the wackier the better...and what's more wacky than being so civilized as to wear pearls to a movie?

A good string of pearls is always in good taste. (:

My someday pearl purchase is going to be a string of black pearls. I think they're beautiful but the only ones I own in necklace form right now are spacers in a longer string that I don't want to break up.

Hi! Who are you?

There were some nice colored pearl pieces, but they were all even more expensive - or they contained gold, and I try to just go with silver for my accents. But yes, I can see that black pearls would be coveted!

I wore 'em. And I was not at all the craziest-dressed person there. Very, VERY far from it, actually! ;)

Oh, honey, it's awesome that you bought that string of pearls:
1) ...because that is such an amazing sale that you should be revered as a Shopping Goddess.
2) ...because it's something that you have wanted for a long time and will always use/want/like
3)... yes, because you don't need a man to buy you jewelry. You make your own happiness, and I think that buying that strand of pearls was a very nice symbolic gesture of that. So when you wear your pearls (as often as possible!) you should smile when you remember that you make your own happiness.

ps- it's okay to cry, it really is. You're still grieving. I think it's healthy that you can cry and let it out, instead of keeping it all inside.

SCA: Caryl de Trecesson. In this particular connection: [livejournal.com profile] gyzki's wife, who reads his flist because it's simpler to keep in touch with mutual friends that way rather than try to duplicate so many friendings. But I don't usually comment if I don't know people directly and I really, really apologize if it confused more than helped. Just, well... it was a hug-worthy post and no one else had yet responded.

Aha! No, your post wasn't confusing, it was quite touching. I was just curious as to who would be so nice to me without me knowing who they were. :)

Hee. I think shopping goddesshood would make a bit more sense if I had KNOWN there was a sale and planned my trip and purchases accordingly. This was just uber shopping luck.

I'm wearing them RIGHT NOW. But I also am wearing a turtleneck, so they're hidden underneath. But I know I'm wearing them, and that's the important part.

I love(!) pearls, too, even if they are of questionable vegetarian integrity.

You should totally post a picture.

Also, hooray for the B.C. Clark jingle! For any Oklahoman or former Oklahoman, that counts as a real Christmas song. ;)

Dunno if it'll be consolation, but here's the cool thing about having bought those pearls for yourself: they will have increasingly positive associations as time goes on and staking out your own independent happiness loses its current bittersweet quality. Meanwhile if you’d gotten them as a gift from londo you’d have to wait forever for them to disentangle from all the messy emotions, if they ever did, and you wouldn’t be able to wear them for who knows how long. Either way, I think it’s pretty awesome that you bought them. And at that discount, too! I salute your l33t bargain-finding!

Nonono, when you ascend to Shopping Goddess, you no longer have to LOOK for sales. They just happen to you. You desire a pearl necklace, and BAM! there's a 75% sale. (Which I still can't get over, and considering driving to Boston just to go to.)

Now you've got me thinking about the various presents I have from various exes. T-shirts, a Galileo thermometer... They're not doomed to bad association. :) But yeah, these I can wear RIGHT NOW and feel awesome.

I know. It's been five years and I still play it every Christmas to get myself in the mood. It's kind of sad, in a funny way.
