Yes, I too find today's XKCD comment-worthy. Saying no more because at least MY friend's list is spammed up enough about it as it is. :)

It's funny cause it's tragic.

I believe Metallica wrote a song about it.

Yeah. I thought you'd have a... at least a reaction to it.

I didn't really have any specific thoughts at you regarding this, but I know you to be someone with capital-T-Thoughts on relationships and someone who might have something interesting to say about "Nice Guys" and how they treat women.

Yeahhh. That one rang pretty true based on some things I've witnessed in greater geekdom and elsewhere.

As DeNiro said in "The Untouchables"

"We laugh because it is funny. We laugh because it is true."

I don't know if you've seen this on your flist yet, but it emerged on mine. I find it quite topical going along with that XKCD.

I find that kinda horrifying. In darker moments, I worry that it describes me and Kes. But really, she doesn't pause. Often.

Just to be contrary....

I know the stereotype exists and is in general a bad thing. However on the flip side, my sister in law was previously divorced before she married my brother. A comment that stuck with me was that she said when she married my brother, she was also marrying her best friend.

I always wonder how many divorces occur because someone married a person they would never actually accept as a friend.

But it's not about loving relationships that naturally blossom out of friendships, or romantic partners who are also friends. It's about guys who have zero interest in a platonic relationship with a woman but who pretend to be her friend solely in the hopes that the friendship will one day become something more, even if she has never expressed any interest in having a deeper relationship with them.

I would tell you that's not the issue at stake here, but [livejournal.com profile] freerange_snark has already done it for me. :)

Right. I like assholes too. But that generally means we've left a trail of "Nice Guys" in our wake, really unhappy that we keep getting involved with assholes.

Oof. :P I know I have left both, but actually I often feel more guilty about the Nice Guys, because they're the ones who actually give the guilt trips. The nice guys take it quietly and never tell me.

I respond to all kinds of guilt trips. :/

Hee. I realized I didn't have a Pixel icon, and I didn't have a face-less "sleepy/sad/emo" icon, so I fixed both problems together. :)
