I think today's Google logo is amazingly pretty.

I wish I could find who did that and have them do something similar with my name. Anyone know calligraphy?

*raises hand* I was a practitioner of that art many years ago; I haven't done it, however, in quite some time. You could tell me some details as to what you want to do and I'll get back to you.

Aha! I didn't know the specific word for the flourishing done on the capital letters, but that is indeed what I'm talking about. Have any samples of your work, O talented one?

Illuminated texts...

I have also dabbled in the fine art of illuminated lettering. Done with pen, ink or etch for multiple printings. Once I even got a contract to etch into a stone fireplace hearth the letter I created... fun with power tools, gold foil and paints...

Um... something pretty. Involving my name. I don't have a grand idea or anything, I just saw the Google thing and thought it was really pretty.

Neat, sounds pretty awesome. :)

I see from your friends' list that I probably know you, but you should give me a hint as to who you are. :)

I, too, have done calligraphy for years. I've only recently started trying to do illumination, too. It's fun to play with. Some of us even list it among our LJ interests. :) Illuminated initial caps occur frequently in medieval manuscripts, many of them more pretty than the Google example.

Yeah, but most of those medieval illuminated caps are (at least to me) indecipherable. I can never tell what letter they're supposed to be because there's too much going on.

I've seen "illumination" in people's interests, but I always assumed it was an Illuminati (http://www.masonicinfo.com/illuminati.htm) reference.

Well, I bet illumination is lots more fun than many of the things you have to do.

[livejournal.com profile] kevinpease does fancy letters (e.g., ambigrams (http://cerulean.st/ambigram/)) in addition to an irregular webcomic or two (http://www.absurdnotions.org/).

Well, I seem to have been deluged with people, but I don't have something I want in particular. I just thought the Google thing was pretty.

Okie-dokie. And, yes, that letter illumination was neat.

See I always thought fnord was more Church of the Sub-Genius, not Illuminati. *Grin*

Nope - fnord is an Illuminati term. Subgenii are related, certainly, and I could find people who could explain much better than I just exactly how they're related, but the term fnord is an Illuminati term.

Heh. You learn something new every day (and *whew* to that).

Actually, on this subject, I'm actually content not knowing the relationship between fnord, subgenii (though I have to admit most of their literature is hilarious), and the illuminati, or the masons, elks, knights of columbus, shriners, the OC, or what have you. *grin* I sleep better at night that way. *giggle*

Aw, but you're missing out on reading a great book that way!! (The Illuminatus Trilogy)

Heh. I actually red that a long time ago. A bit.. Odd. I prefer the Tomb Raider type illuminati. *grin* Could just be Angelina Jolie though. laf.

I still have that book somewhere come to think of it. Maybe I'll crack it open again.
