Oops, I never posted again after lunch yesterday. I read for about 20 minutes and then slept the rest of the time.

I keep forgetting to post about the awesome thing that happened to me on Sunday. I rode a motorcycle!! [livejournal.com profile] princess_muffin had an extra helmet at Crossroads and stuck me on the back of her bike for the trip to Sunday dinner. It was great fun (scary for a while - leaning that much for a turn was not natural!), although the way I sat ended up making my back sore. I hope for another go at it sometime. :) Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] princess_muffin!!!

Week and a half 'til OMP!! :)

Hopefully my deposit will be returned before then... the landlord's 3 weeks are ending soon. (Or was it 2? Will check lease when I get home tonight.)

Oh, yeah. Joined the Somerville library on Monday. Libraries are really hip with the times these days, renting movies and museum passes and such. I only left with 5 books, which I'm sure I'll return before the three-week deadline. Watch this space - I'm going to solicit book recommendations sometime!

I really need to get my computer up and running at home.

So first [livejournal.com profile] en_ki posted a link to this article on why unorthodox ("crackpot") scientists fail (and it's not because of their crazy ideas). I checked out this [livejournal.com profile] notionalslurry guy/thing, and was immediately drawn in the by the title of the (at this time) penultimate article (title slightly altered):
You know that part in Babyon Five when they had [spoiler] the [spoiler] and the [spoiler] and you thought it was all over, but they still had to deal with [spoiler] and all, and so it still took an entire [spoiler]-full of episodes to finish things off? Like [spoiler] and [spoiler]?; or, Erdos Number Auction II
Hey, some people haven't seen it yet. I just got there, in fact..

The better thing is what that article is actually about: an ebay auction selling off an Erdös number of 2. Apparently there was this busy mathematician named Paul Erdös who collaborated with at least 509 other people on papers until his death in 1986, and now he's the Kevin Bacon of the mathematics community. If you co-authored directly with him, you get an Erdös number of 1; if you co-author with one of those, your number is 2, etc. The auction is selling off the opportunity to write a paper with someone who has a 1, so you get a 2. *grin*

I think that's awesome.

If you and I were alone in a room right now, what would we be doing? (Please remember this post is public.) ;)

Post this in your LJ, and see what people want to do with you...

So, Wednesdays are going to be the days that kick me in the butt, physically.

It's bad enough riding my bike to the T station and back once a day... Now, in order to save as much money as possible (eating at home instead of out), on Wednesdays I will: ride bike to Central, take bus to work, take bus to Central, ride bike home, eat dinner, ride bike to MIT, dance, ride bike home. Tonight there was even a penultimate step of "ride bike to grocery store," since I needed lunch meat for tomorrow's food.

Perhaps I will simply write off Wednesday nights as pay-for-food nights. After all, there are thai food restaurants in the area I could just go to...

Which reminds me that I saw one on the way home that's not too far from my house. My decision on this place is now complete. ;)

And now, I go sleep.
