Last night [livejournal.com profile] tpau and [livejournal.com profile] learnedax grabbed [livejournal.com profile] dkapell and I to have dinner at [livejournal.com profile] metahacker's house. This was done in part because it was a good social thing to do, in part because I needed to meet the illustrious [livejournal.com profile] metahacker, and in part because there's going to be a rentable room opening up there about the time I want to move.

And what a temptation it is.

I had a good time there. [livejournal.com profile] brynndragon wasn't home, but I have met her and find her a nifty person, [livejournal.com profile] metahacker came off as extremely awesome, and <lj user=what'sherusernameifshehasone?> was frazzled with an upcoming trip but still came off and sweet and interesting. They have a nice big house with plenty of space (and yards!), a decent-sized room, and a piano.

But.

The rent there would be over $100 more than what I'm being offered to go elsewhere. It's in Waltham and I don't have a car - meaning I'd either have to rely on the commuter rail (expensive) or busses (time-expensive) to get to where I work (and I foresee more Boston-centric temp jobs in my future). It would be difficult for [livejournal.com profile] londo to visit for the same reasons - either he'd have to take two commuter rails, or a rail and a bus, or two busses. Way too much hassle.

Basically, unless I can get a real (read: secure, not temp) job right there in Waltham that pays well, it's not a good idea. My first life priority is to get out of debt, and that means going for the cheaper option, even if it's not as fun/desirable.

Plus, the cheaper option might lead to living with [livejournal.com profile] kobold, and that's just awesome.
