empowerment

I rode my bike to school today. In a skirt. Not a long skirt. I do not believe I gave anyone a view they shouldn't. I was very careful getting on and off the bike.

I'm just happy to be wearing this skirt. The happy wearing of it required 5 safety pins. Perhaps if I have time today I'll pull out the sewing machine (I have many other errands to run).

I made it through a 3-hour shift at Papa John's last night without eating a slice of pizza. Free, on-the-clock pizza is what I consider an enemy at the moment. But what a tempting enemy... So yes, slow but steady. I work from 8-close on Friday, much longer than a 3-hour shift (more like 7-8, depending on when I get to leave).

I have two one-page papers to finish in the next hour and a half. Simple? I think so, but there are a lot of distractions. We'll see.

You are a brave brave woman, denying yourself on the clock pizza. I salute you your efforts. I was never able to resist when I worked at the Flying Tomato

Well I've only tried it once now, so my ability to resist is still in experimental stages... I will keep the scientific community informed of my progress, though.

ooh, it's larken. :) where have you been hiding? i haven't talked to you in i think 2 years. that was when i still played 3k of course (chuckie/cornshuck).

and julia...at least you have good pizza at work. the pizza where i work sucks, and i have to pay for it if i don't want to go somewhere for lunch. ;)

Heh, where have I been? Well most recently New Zealand

Julia:Man, I would kill for an american pizza right now...or an american hot dog(never let a Kiwi convince you to try a sausage here...ugh!) No one ever says, "Hey, lets go have some New Zealand food!" And there's a reason for that :P

Gaffman assures me that Australian pizza is the best in the world, is it different than New Zealand pizza?

[identity profile] christhegeek.livejournal.com 2002-09-05 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been to Australia ;)

The 'really good pizza' they have here has stuff like apricot or cranberry sauce instead of tomato and bree for cheese, chicken for the meat. I personally think its gross, but they LOVE it here.

Then you have Pizza hutt, which has the commercial pizza monopoly. They use Salami for their pepperonis instead of..well, pepperoni, but are 'okay'. You can get a mediocre pizza here, but nothing even close to the good pizza you have in the states *sob*

Whoa, that's very weird pizza. I mean, I might like it, but...

I'd send you some if I could. Do you ever try making your own?

[identity profile] christhegeek.livejournal.com 2002-09-05 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I've tried but it doesn't work out. I don't think they make their motz with skim milk here, which is a key factor. Their crushed tomatoes are a different type of tomatos so the sauce is much too sweet and the type of tomatos I need just aren't availible period.(I guess they don't grow in this climate) On top of all of that, we have a seriously crack-headed oven that either flash fries everything or doesn't cook it at all.

I keep thinking of that one episode of the muff mob where the 'magical' oven keeps saying, "Hey, you got any oven cleaner?"snoooooooooort!"

Oh god, the Muff Mob.

where in new zealand are you?
i lived in wellington from may-october 2001. i really enjoyed the pizza from hell pizza. and there were just so many good cheap restaurants there...i was always stuffing myself. but they WERE all turkish and malaysian and sushi, etc.

[identity profile] christhegeek.livejournal.com 2002-09-05 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in Auckland...the most American city in all of New Zealand. Thankfull the REST of New Zealand is just a quick drive away.

We also live about 8 hours drive from Wellington..and I guess, from your description, the nearest good pizza place.

Bugger.

just a side note...

[identity profile] vambot5.livejournal.com 2002-09-05 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
pepperoni is just a particular kind of salami, typically with a lot of paprika/red pepper and a high fat content.

though apricot sounds "interesting" (by which I mean disgusting--I hate apricot), there's no substitute in my mind for good, cheap, american pepperoni. almost overcooked so the cheese is browned and the pepperoni crispy. it's like... god.

Apricot on pizza? Freaking Kiwis.. That's not right. Although what I hear of American pizza isn't good. Is it true it has hardly anything on it?

I admire your efforts not to eat at work.. If I didn't eat at work I wouldn't eat, but I've got to learn to avoid the icecream and cake.. and chocolate.. and smoothies.. and muffins with cream.. argh!

From what Corch said, it seems like American pizza doesn't put as many toppings on as Australian pizza. In fact, the most popular pizzas in the US are just cheese (well and tomato sauce) and cheese and pepperoni.
