books

Dammit. I should have stopped reading Ode to Billy Joe when I realized that I would finish it on the bus before work. Now I'm going to spend most of the morning trying not to cry at my desk thinking about it.

(As a side note, I finished Harry Potter 6 a few days ago, too. But interestingly, it didn't make me cry.)

EDIT: there are some spoilers in the comments of this post. Don't read the comments if you don't want to take the risk of being spoiled!

Work isn't allowing that today.

No crying was necessary. The ending was unavoidable, and not all that surprising. Even I didn't cry, and I cry during that old phone company commercial, with the kid who ran away from home, and he calls his mom and says "Mom, I want to come home".

More or less my reaction.

And I *do* cry on reading some things. Most recently when re-reading the "Valerie" section of V For Vendetta, for the N-th time.

SPOILERS:

I cried, but I don't understand why most people think HP6 was more sad than HP5. It sucks that Dumbledore died, but he was old, and the Order of the Phoenix can't depend on him for everything forever. When Sirius died, though, that was another story. *tear*

I also can't believe that some people are so surprised Rowling didn't bring Sirius back to live in HP6. I really think she has more integrity than that, and wouldn't do something so trite.

Hmm. I think I'm going to screen your comment, if you don't mind, because it's more open than I want spoilers in my LJ to be. Spur of the moment decision, you see. I'll also be screening my response...

People expected Rowling to bring back Sirius? Whoa. I never would've expected that. I can see Dumbledore coming back in some weird manner, as a ghost or whatnot - oh wait, he's in a portrait, just ask it! - but Sirius I don't. Hrm. Although thinking about it more... I need to reread how he died. I remember it not being as definite as all that...

I changed my mind about the screening and just made a spoiler edit in the post. ;)
