weapons of mass destruction

JFK used the term before Bush. Hunh.

"We have vowed that we shall not see space filled with weapons of mass destruction, but with instruments of knowledge and understanding." -Address at Rice University in Houston on the Nation's Space Effort. September 12, 1962.

The term has been around since WWII or so, maybe earlier, and was, until relatively recently, often heard in the discussions of arms control negotiations throughout the Cold War, referring to NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical) weapons.

(As opposed to, say, the booga-booga slogan that it is often employed as today.)
