Have a camcorder I can borrow?

I have a request for you folks.

Does anyone have any reasonable-quality camcorder or other type of digital video recorder (I don't know what you kids are calling them these days) that I could rent (or borrow, but I want to state upfront that I'm willing to give you money) to take to the Jonathan Coulton show on August 19th, which would subsequently provide me with video that I could share online with other fans? (JoCo himself is a fan of this idea.) It'd get me total BestFanEver points to be able to do this, and I doubt the camera on the back of my Treo650 is gonna cut it.

*beg*

I have no such beast, but I do have about a dozen miniDV cassettes if you happen to get a camcorder that reads them.

Or if anyone on your flist wants them...

I have one that you can borrow (no money necessary). If you want to use it, Greg is here and said he can take it with him to give to you sometime. He also thinks it takes those miniDV cassettes that he has. Let me know if you still want to use it. :-)

Well, the question then would be when would Greg and I see each other between now and next Saturday... but yes, thank you! That's awesome!

That person doesn't like their real name on the internets so your comment is now screened :P

That sounds like a great idea. Duh at me for not thinking of it first. Yay!

Conveniently, her camera uses miniDV.

Also - how does it work with regard to hooking it up to a computer and getting a .mov or .avi or .mpg or whatever? Do I need special software? Are you going to need to do it for me?

I am pretty sure it has everything you need. but remember, I never really used it, so I don't know for sure.
