JUMALAUTA, VITUN HUORANPENIKKA PASKA!

I was having a fairly good day.

I had everything I needed to go get my driver's license converted during lunch. I kept watch on the monitor on their webpage until the lunch rush was over. I hobbled down to the silver line (ow), took the bus to Chinatown, went to the RMV, got in line...

...my passport wasn't in my purse. Where, until this holiday, it always was. Because now it's in my room, since so many people told me it was a bad idea to carry it around.

AAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I started crying right there in the middle of the RMV. This, of course, did not budge their icy emotionless hearts at all. (Yes, I'm being dramatic.)

So then I decided to indulge myself and WALK (ow) a couple blocks down to this cheap takeout chinese place where I got a to-go container of tofu veggies and lo mein for $3. Then I walked (ow) back to the silver line and came back to work. Late, because of course there was a silver line pulling away as I limped across the street to the bus stop.

I guess I'll try again tomorrow.

While there's a risk in carrying your passport with you, I do it, anyway. In my case, it gives me the illusion of total mobility. The two things I need to go anywhere in the world on a moment's notice are a credit card and a passport. Everything else can be charged to the credit card. It's dangerous business stepping out of your door. You never know where the road may lead you.

I like that attitude. :)

I'm not sure what you mean with your comment.

Sorry, rasfw-speak.

It is a request for further explanation, as in "I think this needs a footnote."

Ah.

It's Finnish swearing.

Like many answers, this only begets more questions :-)

What's it translate to? Why Finnish?

[identity profile] rufinia.livejournal.com 2005-01-13 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Look at it. Why *not* Finnish? Finnish is a f-ed up language that takes three times as many syllables to say anything sensible. This is one reason why the "real" Scandinavians don't trust the Finns (and sya they make property values go down). The language isn't related at ALL, so no one knows what the hell they're saying.

Swedish is one of the two official languages of Finland (in fact, Finland is the Swedish name for the country - Suomi is the name in Finnish).

They may use too many vowels (making too many syllables for your taste), but think what they save on consonants!

My favourite bit of Finnish trivia: the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd personal pronouns are me, te, and se respectively. Looks positively Indo-European doesn't it? But those are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd personal plural!

It's roughly, "Goddamn fucking motherfucker shit!" although the third word is more halfway between motherfucker and sonofabitch. According to the Finn I spoke to.

And why? Because there was a Finn in the chat room where I was swearing. ;)
