Free checks!

I'm so silly. I can't believe I've never taken advantage of this:

My bank (USAA) offers free checks for the life of my account. Yes they're a simple design, but I can still get a little picture of a music clef in the top corner! And yes they aren't duplicate checks (with a carbon copy) but that's what check registers are for... Because, yay, free!

Which means that I don't need to worry about using up the boxes of checks I still have with my old address on them. It doesn't cost me money to toss 'em and order new ones! (Yes, it cost me money to get them originally. That's my stupidity fee for not finding out about this before, when it was right there on the bank's webpage.)

USAA is awesome :)

I so agree! I've known about the deposit slips for a long time, but not the checks...

Oh, and I love it when people ask me what ATM I need and I say, "Oh, whatever!"

Does this mean that *no* ATMs charge you extra, or that *all* ATMs charge you extra, and you're just used to it?

I've read the USAA marketing material. If I remember correctly, USAA refunds something like up to 10 ATM transaction fees per month. Digital Federal Credit Union refunds up to $5 per month in transaction fees.

As [livejournal.com profile] snarkyman says, and from the USAA website: No charge for the first 10 ATM withdrawals, per monthly statement cycle, from non-USAA ATMs; additional withdrawals are $1 each. USAA Federal Savings Bank will automatically refund up to $15 for domestic ATM surcharges incurred per account, per statement cycle.

I have never, in the um 8 years I've had this account, visited ATMs more than 10 times in a month or incurred ATM charges for more than $13 in a month.

Wow. I didn't know *anyone* did that. I'm strongly tempted to switch, especially as my current bank is undergoing its 3rd or 4th merger/name-change since I last *voluntarily* changed banks.

My google-fu is insufficient to dig them out from all the multifarious groups with that acronym. What's their web page?

http://www.usaa.com ;)

You have to have military blood in your veins to join, however. And you're already married, so a little convenience marriage to me wouldn't count... ;)

Drat! I knew there had to be a catch somewhere...

So you like the USAA checking account? Is the service good? I have USAA credit cards and a Roth IRA. I thought about it, but went with a local checking bank then moved to Digital Federal Credit Union.

I've had my USAA checking account for probably 8 years, and I have never ever had a problem with it. I guess it's something I take for granted, but it's just wonderful.

I didn't know you were with USAA. That is awesome! And free checks are a nice perk. Do you want to hear my Earthlink spiel? LOL.

[identity profile] juldea.livejournal.com 2004-09-07 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, USAA member my whole life! Well, basically. Heh.

Earthlink spiel? Um, sure...

[identity profile] belladonna1015.livejournal.com 2004-09-07 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly that I worked for Earthlink this summer, and usaa members get pretty good discounts, on highspeed, or dial up. Which who is still on dial up? But yeah, good stuff, that and I hear their deal w/ sprint is pretty nice, but I am not as familiar.

I can't quite remember why, but I found them to not be all they're cracked up to be.

I like duplicate checks.
