randomness from the day

I woke up at 8:30 today. And then at 9:30. And then at 11:30. The last one was bad because I was supposed to meet [livejournal.com profile] diego001 at noon downtown. So I dashed off an IM to him with my phone number and headed out. I got to our meeting point about an hour late, and 30-45 minutes later he called... We eventually did meet up and hang out for the next few hours, which was superkeen. I scared him with my ability to eat whole sugar packets (not just the sugar - the packet, paper included), he enlightened me on a very important mathematical concept (more on that below), we browsed bookstores and knifestores and generally had a grand ol' time.

So, math. Yeah. I had the very basic question of, "How can 6 times 9 (base 10) equal 42 (base 13)?" It is, of course, because 42 (b13) = 54 (b10). The problem I had was figuring out how 42 could equal 54... Something I'm a bit ashamed about not grasping, since I very easily understand how 101010 = 42... Oh well. It's obvious now.

Let's see, what else? *ponder*

Ah well, if I remember I'll just make another post. ;)

You needn't say 6 and 9 (base 10), because 6 and 9 are still 6 and 9 in base 13. :-)

Hehe, you're right. Silly me. :)

So.. how did you discover that you could eat whole sugar sachets?

I saw someone else do it. I don't remember who, anymore, but they just stuck the entire thing in their mouth and chewed and told me how good it was, and I believed them...

It kind of time-releases the sugar. Mm.
